When the Bunnett-Muir collection started it was centred on recordings. The need to find ways of researching the subject proved difficult and in the early seventies the first discography of the London Musical Stage was published using the collection as the base for the LP, 45 and EP issues while the earlier years of the 78 utilised the EMI and BBC archives so lovingly overseen by Brian Rust.
From this the collection grew to include and books / magazine that could show light on our Musical Theatre heritage. John Muir started a collection of sheet music dating back to the Music Hall and American Vaudeville that concentrated on Musical Theatre. The collection since extended to include librettos, programmes and souvenir issues.
